Berlin Excursion 2019

In this March our SPRING batch went on the annual excursion to the German capital, Berlin. On four days, with a multifarious and and inspiring programm, they learned a lot about the history of the city, but also the current planning activities. It was a highlight for every student.

Berlin Excursion 2019

This year’s Berlin excursion of the SPRING Master's programme took place from 20 to 23 March 2019. The students were accompanied by Paula Quentin (research assistant), who led the excursion, and by Annika Guhl, one of our student assistants.

After the arrival the students visited the city models in the Senate building, where Mr. Hajer from berlininfo illustrated the historical and current architectural development of Berlin.

On the next day Mr. Hajer guided the group over the “Tempelhofer Feld” and the park at the “Gleisdreieck”, explaining two different approaches to open space planning. A visit to the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) in the afternoon and a guided tour through the old tunnels in the underground of Berlin was rounding off the day.

On March 22nd, the group visited the district Kreuzberg in the morning together with Mr. Hajer, who gave the students an understanding of the careful urban renewal on the basis of structural examples. In the afternoon, the group visited the project “Holzmarkt”, an urban village, with a community that aims to connect nature, economy and culture. A city planner discussed the development of the project as wells as previous and future challenges.

On the last day the students took a view into the Reichstag dome and then returned to Dortmund.
